The Green Apron is an Essex based cookery school and catering company with a passion for fresh, seasonal, wholesome and above all else, very delicious food.
The Green Apron cookery school is based in the home kitchen of a beautiful 1870s house in the heart of the historic village of Coggeshall on the Essex and Suffolk border. Run by Leith’s trained, experienced caterer and home cook Claire Barham – the aim of the cookery school is to help participants build confidence in the kitchen and learn new skills – whatever their current level of ability.
Focused very much on home cooking we don’t use fancy equipment or ingredients – just help participants build their repertoire of delicious recipes they can enjoy every day. Everyone cooks together around a large island in the house’s kitchen garden room overlooking the vegetable garden. With a maximum of 8 participants on any one day, the classes are fun, sociable, relaxed and very hands-on with lots of one-to-one support helping participants learn and practise new cooking skills and techniques.
Most cookery classes are one day sessions that start at 10am and finish by 4pm including a couple of breaks and lunch included so you can enjoy the food you’ve produced. You’ll leave the day with a bag full of goodies, a full stomach, a host of new tips and skills and lots of inspiration to try out new things in your own kitchen.
Classes have been classified as ‘for beginners’ or ‘for all levels’. If you want to learn how to cook then the beginner’s cookery classes are for you. They are specifically focused for those who either don’t cook at all or want to go back to go back to basics to improve their skills. The classes for all levels don’t assume any prior knowledge or depth of skill but will hopefully introduce participants to new techniques and recipes to try at home.
All classes can be adapted for small groups that want to cook together. Ideally for something different to do for a birthday, anniversary, hen/stag or any special occasion we can either run one of the advertised all day classes just for your group or we’ll put something specific together for you. Please e-mail email@example.com to discuss your requirements in more detail.
Nothing builds a team, breaks down barriers and gets everyone talking and mixing like a few hours spent together in the kitchen. A cookery session provides an ideal experience for small corporate groups who are looking to do something different. Classes can be planned around your requirements – from one hour classes on a specific topic (e.g. sushi making) to simple short demos to competitions on who can make the best course or think of the most imaginative dish from a selection of ingredients. We can build a corporate session around your requirements, size of team and sizing. Alternative select one of our existing courses and book the school out for the day.
Why not combine a team or strategy meeting with making your own lunch or dinner? The dining room at the Green Apron can comfortably seat 12 and we are happy to provide refreshments of your choosing (breakfast, teas and coffees, lunch).
